Ok, so today I watched the Apple World Wide Developers Conference keynote speech; there was nothing to report. It was a recap of last year with the Leopard features and then the insult of the year telling iPhone developers that if they want to make apps for the phone they can do it with Ajax and Web 2.0 HTML standards. That was really like shoving a shit sandwhich down some peoples throats. But oh well. I think the iPhone is goint to be a flop.
Other than that there was no news. No new .Mac upgrades, no new iMacs, no new nothing. So that ends WWDC 2007. I remember my Apple rep saying this would the year of Apple. So far with the Leopard dealy this isn’t much of anything but a year of empty promises. They better start rolling out some crazy shit soon starting with Lepoard or they’re going to loose their momentum. Today alone their stock price dropped $4 a share in the last hours of trading. I expect it will drop even farther tomorrow and go below $100. Namely because they’re just sitting spinning their wheels on promises and the hopes of a cell phone that no one can afford.
Perhaps the biggest thing from the whole presentation was the announcement of Safari for Windows. I'm thinking that's going to go over like a wet towel though. If you're on Windows you're a fan and using a competing platforms web browser isn't really something you would pursue unless you were thinking of jumping ship and buying a new computer.
Well I may be wrong. But what I'd like to see is Leopard server with CalDev iCal server and new Xserve hardware and new Open Directory goodies along with Rendezvous tricks and new iMac's with LED back lighting as well as regular Macbooks and a widescreen iPod.
But I guess I'm going to have to wait until the fall. Here's to a summer of code for Apple developers.
